May 8, 2019ShellyBlog

I will let you know my frequently asked questions and perhaps help you understand what a baby naming ceremony is all about.

Trending in Ireland right now

In recent times Irish parents have followed a worldwide trend of choosing and alternate option when celebrating the naming of their child. ….celebrity name drop….non religious….inclusive….

Why choose a baby naming ceremony over a baby baptism

As a baby naming celebrant one of the most common questions that I am asked is “What is a baby naming ceremony”. A naming ceremony is an alternative to a religious ceremony such as a christening. The purpose is the recognise and celebrate the arrival of a child and welcome him/her in to the family and circle of friends. It gives you the freedom of choice.Couples may choose a baptism down the road when their baby is a little older.Around forty percent of couples are now opting to get married outside the church, so it is no surprise that this generation are also choosing choice over tradition.

What happens at a baby naming ceremony

Your ceremony is all about you and your baby. The beauty of a naming ceremony is you are free to include anything you like, even a bible reading or blessing if that is your choice. A Naming Ceremony is a celebration of family and life. … It will include officially naming your child and declarations of promises and commitments from parents and guide parents. In the ceremony you can also include some nice  readings and music. The celebrant will start by welcoming all the Guests on your  behalf. They will then tell a little story about the baby and its arrival in to this world. They may also tell the meaning of the name you have chosen for your baby. The celebrant will explain what the ceremony is all about and how important it is to bestow someone with a name of their own.

What are guide parents and what is their role

Guide parents take on the same role as Godparents ,there are no rules to say you can’t use the term Godparents as it is a highly recognised name There are also many alternatives; Guardian, mentor, but they may sound a bit strict and not as friendly as guide parent.

Guide Parents  are mostly family members or close friends. The guide parents  traditional role is to guide a child along its path in life. They can support without the day to day tangles of a parent. They would also share the same values of the parents.
